for the 2007-2008 Season

Philharmonia and Symphonic Orchestras

*Scales*

  • Philharmonia Strings:  2 Octaves, no arpeggios, C, G, D, F, Bb
  • Symphonic Strings:  3 Octaves, no arpeggios, C, G, D, A, F, Bb, Eb
     
  • Philharmonia Woodwinds and Brass:  1 octave, no arpeggios C, G, D, A, F, Bb
    (This does NOT indicate concert pitch on transposing instruments.)
  • Symphonic Woodwinds and Brass:  2 octaves where possible, no arpeggios C, G, D, A, F, Bb, Eb
    (This does NOT indicate concert pitch on transposing instruments)

*Etudes*

  • Etudes will be passed out at rehearsal and TVMF.
    If you are a new player to these orchestras, please call 880-0622 for music.

*Sight Reading*

  • Required for auditions for both Philharmonia and Symphonic Orchestras.

*Percussion*

  • Phiharmonia:  Solo on snare drum and/or mallets that demonstrates at least 3 years playing experience.
    Mallet players should play 1 octave C, D, F scales.
  • Symphonic- All State audition etude or equivalent on two of the three areas- tympani, xylophone (2 or 4 mallets), snare.

*Notes*

  • Auditions for returning musicians will take place April 26-28.
  • Auditions for new musicians to these orchestras will take place August 10-11. Musicians are accepted throughout the year.
  • Philharmonia Orchestra is an intermediate full orchestra.
  • Symphonic Orchestra is an advanced full orchestra.
  • New for the 2008-2009 season:  Symphonic students will be required to prepare all 12 major scales.
