ensembles, which is essential to the member's musical education. Some of
these ensembles will perform at a special chamber music concert and at
community events. Information about this program will be available on
registration days.
Other Activities:
Concerto Competition
Gerhart Scholarship
Registration for All State Orchestra
Tennessee Valley Music Festival
This program has been made possible through the generosity of Amateur
Chamber Music Players and the Clinton B. Ford Fund of its ACMP
Foundation, an organization that promotes chamber music activities for
amateur musicians. To learn more about the ACMP, please visit
www.acmp.net.
Guidelines for Participation
- Participation in the Chamber Music Program (CMP)
is open to all students participating in either the Symphonic or
Philharmonia Orchestras. The CMP is designed to enhance and enrich
the musical and educational experiences of HYO members.
- The cost for the 2007-2008 season will be $50 per
year for HYO members, and $100 per year for non- HYO members.
- All ensembles must be approved by the HYO Music
Director before coaching begins. Students may form their own
ensembles, or request assistance from the Music Director. Ensembles
must be composed of at least three musicians unless approved by the
Music Director and must be from more than one family.
- Chamber music participants may invite Non-HYO
musicians to join their groups as needed, but at least half of the
members of all chamber ensembles operating under the umbrella of the
CMP must be members of the HYO. Non-HYO musicians must be approved
by the Music Director and/or the Chamber Music Coordinator.
- Substitute musicians must be approved by the
Chamber Music Coordinator and the coach.
- Coaches must be approved by the Music Director.
Students may request a specific coach, or ask the Music Director for
guidance in selecting a coach. Requests may be made in person, by
email, or in writing. Coaching fees will be set at the beginning of
the season.
- Students, parents, and coaches are responsible
for scheduling their respective ensemble. Ensembles are expected to
hold a minimum of one rehearsal per week (minimum of one hour). HYO
will pay for only two coachings per month from September 1 through
April 30. It is highly recommended that coachings and rehearsals
occur on alternate weeks. The number of coaching sessions must be
turned into the Chamber Music Coordinator monthly by the 27th for
payment by the treasurer during the first week of the month.
- Students participating in the CMP shall perform
in one chamber music concert, which will be held in the spring. The
HYO expects each group to perform at least once a semester in
addition to the concert. This could include HYO events, civic
functions, Symphony Guild Silver Tea, and Panoply. These will be
done without pay.
- The Chamber Music Coordinator will maintain a
list of those chamber groups that would like to perform for
weddings, etc. The HYO will refer these groups when services are
requested.
- The Chamber Music Coordinator must be informed of
all outside performances by HYO Chamber Groups, whether paid or not.
- The HYO has an extensive library of chamber music
that is available to the chamber groups. A request should be made
through the librarian, who will make copies of the parts needed.
These copies are to be returned when the group disbands or by the
end of the year, unless the group decides to continue practicing
over the summer and received approval from the Chamber Music
Coordinator.
- The HYO does have some money available for
chamber music if it is not already available in the HYO library.
With prior approval, the HYO will either purchase the music at the
request of the coach or reimburse the coach. This music must be
logged into the library before it is used.
